Design Isn’t Just About Choosing Pretty Things

There’s a moment in my workday that doesn’t usually make it into finished photos — sitting at my desk, sunlight coming through the window, flipping through hardware catalogues, learning, comparing, and thinking.
It’s a quiet, everyday part of the job — and one that speaks volumes about how I approach design.
It might not look glamorous, but this is where good design actually begins.
Staying Curious Is Part of the Job
Clients often see the finished space, but thoughtful design starts much earlier.
Interior design isn’t just about selecting beautiful finishes or following trends. It’s about understanding options deeply, staying informed as products evolve, and making decisions that will still feel good years from now. It’s about staying curious, informed, and intentional so every recommendation I make is grounded in real knowledge — not guesswork.
Hardware catalogues, supplier updates, product specs, and trade resources are part of my everyday work. They help me understand: - How products function over time, not just on install day - Where quality really matters and where it doesn’t - What options exist at different budget levels - How small details can quietly improve how a space feels and works
This behind-the-scenes research allows me to guide clients with clarity and confidence — whether they’re renovating for the first time or returning for their next chapter.
Thoughtful Design Is Invisible —
Until You Live With It
Good design rarely calls attention to itself — it simply works.
When a renovation or design project is finished, what you see is the end result: a cohesive space that feels easy to live in.
What you don’t see are the dozens of decisions that happened beforehand: - Comparing hardware not just for looks, but durability and function - Balancing budget priorities so money is spent where it matters most - Anticipating how a space will be used day-to-day - Making sure design choices align with the client’s lifestyle, not just the aesthetic
This is what I mean by thoughtful design. It’s not loud, trendy, or overdone — it’s considered, intentional, and tailored.
Whether It’s a Full Renovation
or a Fresh Ideas Consultation
The same level of care, no matter the scope.
The level of care I bring to a project doesn’t depend on its size.
Whether I’m working on a full renovation or offering guidance through a Fresh Ideas Consultation, the approach is the same: - Listen carefully - Ask the right questions - Do the homework - Offer solutions that make sense for this client and this project
Because good design isn’t about pushing a signature look — it’s about supporting people well, building trust, and creating spaces clients feel confident returning to — and recommending.
A Peek Into the Process
A small window into how I work.
This sunny, quiet moment in my office is a reminder that some of the most important work happens long before construction starts or furniture is delivered.
If you’re planning a renovation, considering updates, or simply feeling unsure about next steps, thoughtful guidance early on can make all the difference — and often saves time, money, and stress later.
Design isn’t just about choosing pretty things. It’s about intention — and bringing my best to every client, every time.
Thinking about a renovation or design update?
Whether you’re starting something new or returning for your next project, I offer a thoughtful, practical approach to interior design — tailored to your space, your priorities, and your season of life.
